This statement is, half true. Yes, an ambition can make your life worth living, but an ambition should never become more important then life itself.
If you focus your entire energy on reaching a single goal, you might run into problems you can not solve. And you must ask yourself in advance: "What then?"... What will I do if I can not achieve my ambition (just for clarification, by ambition I understand purely material things - by no means does love belong to this category - true love can not be stopped by an obstacle, it destroys everything in it's path to fulfillment), what will I do if the single goal of my life (assuming of course that the process has gone this far - and unfortunately, in many cases it does) suddenly disappears? What will you do then? This is a questions that is very rarely asked, and the response that could be offered is in many cases the solution to a situation that otherwise ends up tragically... Suicides, murders, this are the solutions for desperate people. Maybe if they thought about this things more often they would understand the nature of the feelings and they would be able to contain this overflow of emotion! And last of all, we must understand that life itself is more precious than every other opportunity that comes up - as I said before, we must rule out love, because there is a special thing that can not be understood by one who did not feel it! Life is the condition for all things to take place, so, a thing can not be, and by that matter, should never be, placed before life. You have to understand that a car comes and goes, money are made and spent, friendships are made and lost, but your own life can never come back to you once you throw it away. The only thing that is worth more than life is love, because through love you can fulfill yourself, through love you can become one with another... But I repeat, love can, and should not become the object of a petty ambition. So, it is good to have ambitions, but as long as this ambitions remain nothing more, and as long as the person that you really are does not get mesmerized by your permanent struggle for more... This is a lesson that people should understand before becoming focused on only one aspect of life, thus ignoring the other ones. A life lived like that is, at the most, a half-life. Don't become the Halflings of Spirit... This is the way of the wise man. This is the way of the water. This is the way of Dao...
