I wish I could inhabit
The darkness of your mind Silent, obedient and unyielding, A passenger, a ghost in a haunted house Bricks covered in mildew And a pond of waterlilies in the yard... I'd walk the long corridors, Stirred by the echoes of your childhood laugh That day you stole the watermelons. Outside the window, I could see your dreams Clouds of all shapes and sizes, Chased away by the night. The crackling of the wooden floors Would make me think, Of the times you never sighed. The wallpaper still soft at touch Came peeling at the ends, Like your skin in the sun And hanging from the ceiling, A hummingbird locked In a paper cage...
