There was a time when balloons, dragons, and kites inhabited the outer space and every one thousand years one of them was given the honor to fly above the Earth and make a human happy.
My name is Freedom, iâm a living kite. And this is my story. It all started when Cathy put on her red-flowered dress and started dancing barefoot on the beach. It was a June morning, the seagulls were stretching theirs wings towards the horizon, belated quietly nonetheless so real. The sand was still asleep as were the shells and the cliffs. Her friends were snoozing inside the tent. Suddenly, a kite blew out of nowhere, with thousands of colors, that were continuously changing his hues. âWhat on Earth is that?â asked David, struck all in a heap. âitâs just the morning light you sillyâ, the girl replied. âCome on, letâs dance, dance, danceâ. There was a certain magic in her voice, in her strange moves. âWake up you guys, the entire planet is longing for your smileâ and she kept on jumping up and down, but in a split of a second her feet awkwardly stuck with something that appeared to be a ball of colorful silk. And what was even queerer the ball had human features. âOooh aawâŚwhat ..who are you? How did you get here?â Her eyes were filled with wonder. âWellâŚ.Miss, I was flying above the clouds of Himalaya Mountains when I heard this song and the next time I knew I was surrounded by tones of sands and saltâ. âWhat song are you talking about exactly?â âThe one you were humming of courseâ âOh the song of the answer, itâs one of my dearest chants yesâ and her face brightened with the most serene smile. How many roads must a man walk down Before you call him a man? Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand? Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly Before they're forever banned? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind. âWell generally when people sing or dance all the forces of the universe unite and give birth to something really specialâ âLike a smile?â âYes, like a smile or a laughter or a flying kiteâ âI see⌠and you are the materialization of my mood arenât you? Thatâs the reason for which you are so illuminating and have the shape of a square and a circle at the same timeâ âYes miss I am the expression of your loveâ. And you can keep me for 3 months (the entire summer of 2009) during which youâll have the opportunity to make other people aware of their amazing inner beautyâ. And that was the moment when Cathy decided to organize the âCaravan of Kitesâ. Driving in her cozy purple van, every day she randomly picked one city, ragged a tent in the townâs square and invited people to share their dreams and life stories with her. Then, as a gratification of their open- heartedness, she gave them one kite, and made them promise they would fly it with their children on the last August Sunday morning on the cityâs highest hills. After three months, the whole country was familiar with the young girlâs plan. On 29th August 2009, there was this midsummer madness of coloring and joy and happiness: the youth, the elder, the birds, the trees and the grass were all trembling with wonderment. Seen from above, they looked like a melting rainbow, that was spreading love all around it. It was the miracle of rediscovering themselves. Belated, quietly, nonetheless so real. âLook daddy itâs flying higher and higher !!!â âYes just like an eagle thatâs taking us under his wingsâ. âIâll call it FREEDOMâ âweâll do this again right? every summer from now on till the end of the worldâ. âAnd thatâs a promise my darlingâ. There was a time when humans inhabited the Earth and every summer one of them was given the honor to fly kites above the clouds and make an angel happy. My name is Cathy and this is my story.
