The University of Arkansas Press Poetry Series invites submissions of manuscripts each fall for its poetry series. The only criterion is excellence.
The poetry prize is named in honor of Miller Williams, one of America’s finest poets and cofounder and first director of the University of Arkansas Press. Williams was also a co-director of the University of Arkansas’s nationally recognized creative writing program. The series is open to all book-length manuscripts of poetry (between 60-90 pages). Individual manuscripts may have been published in chapbooks, journals, or anthologies. Prize: $5000 for 1st place. The winner and up to three finalists will be published in 2011. In addition to publication, the winner will give a featured reading at the Arkansas Festival of Writers sponsored by the university’s Programs in Creative Writing and Translation. Fee: $25 for each entry, payable by check or money order to the University of Arkansas Press. Deadline: October, 31st. Submissions must also contain 2 title pages: one page should include only the title of the manuscript, the other should list the title of the manuscript and the author’s name, contact information and a brief biographical statement. Do not include any acknowledgement page. The poet’s name must not appear anywhere else in the manuscript. Include a SASE along to be notified of the decision. Contact: Poetry Series, University of Arkansas Press, 105 N. McIlroy Ave., Fayetteville, AR72701, U.S.A. or contact for further information Katy Henriksen at [email protected]
