The Romanian Festival in Plymouth is an apex of the ongoing partnership between the Romanian Cultural Institute and the University of Plymouth.

This year's festival consists of several literature and music events:

Some of the best Romanian writers of the moment - Daniel Banulescu, Ioan Es. Pop, Filip Florian and Matei Florian - will participate in a talk chaired by BBC journalist and presenter Rosie Goldsmith. The authors will present their recently translated books that were published as part of a translation scheme set up by the University of Plymouth Press with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute through the National Book Centre. A reading of selected book excerpts will be undertaken by the Romanian actress, Cristina Catalina.

The translation project entitled 20 Romanian Writers and Associated Artists and hosted by the University of Plymouth Press is the most significant initiative of this kind in the UK and has so far made possible the publication in England of several Romanian books:
Six Maladies of the Contemporary Spirit by Constantin Noica;
The Cinematography Caravan by Ioan Grosan;
Occurrence in the Immediate Unreality by Max Blecher;
Lines Poems Poetry by Mircea Ivanescu;
Who Won the World War of Religions? by Daniel Banulescu;
The Baiut Alley Lads by Filip Florian and Matei Florian;
No Way Out of Hadesburg and other Poems by Ioan Es. Pop;
Aunt Varvara's Clients by Stelian Tanase.

A series of concerts will be performed by acclaimed Romanian and British musicians and ensembles, in various venues in Plymouth:

Upper Lecture Theatre in Sherwell Centre, 19 November - 7.30pm: Anda Anastasescu will play a piano concert by Constantin Silvestri;
St Andrew's Church, 20 November, 7.30pm: the Ten Tors Orchestra will play Doina Rotaru's masterpiece Shadows;
Upper Lecture Theatre in Sherwells Centre, 21 November - 5.00pm: The Arnold Camerata will play George Enescu's String Quartet.

The Festival ends with an incursion into the sounds of an extraordinary region, Transylvania, proposed by the internationally renowned Romanian jazz musician Nicolas Simion and his group. The concert will take place at the B-Bar - The Barbican in Plymouth on 21 November.
