As the definition goes, an essay is an attempt. I attempt to pass on to the reader my personal line of thoughts on a certain subject, contained in a brief text. The text might be exploratory and bring the author to a new level of consciousness, or the author may want to express already developed opinions. The latter was the case with my essay "Secularism and the french revolution." However one unforeseen consequense occured; in a comment I was asked this question: Why talk about politics on Agonia?
Why indeed? Isn't Agonia first of all a forum for poets where she or he can express their innermost feelings regarding man and nature? I fully agree. But then again, what is man and nature? Don't we, when describing man, necessarily describe all aspects of human life and interaction? Personally I find it impossible to extract my concept of "politics" from my concept of "poetry." Does this surprise any of the readers? I am just as fascinated by the wind, the trees and this glorious feeling called love as any writer, I guess. My imagination leads me out on steep, narrow ledges, high above the ground and from the very earth music springs to mye ear. So you see, my writing is not confined to a cage called "social realism", none of that kind. Still I am fascinated by human interaction. Why do people act the way they do? What are their religious, emotional and economic interests? The way we act on our own beliefs and needs must have certain consequences for other people. In a society someone must take important decisions influencing the lives of most of Agonias readers. It is on that background I regard a restriction from political themes as an absurd notion. But, if anyone has enlighted views on this topic that can turn me away from this conviction, they will be more than welcome! Anyway, my attempt has taken me a step further into exploring this website, the literary efforts and the human interaction within.
